That was the day the world changed. That was the day it was decided that no one would ever know what it was like to live on Earth again.

After the human population had finally grown too big and used all of Earth’s resources, while destroying its natural beauty, there was no way to survive. By that point, it wasn’t just a want, but a need to advance our technology enough to find other worlds. Our ancestors were able to find a way to a planet that hadn’t been discovered until the late 3010’s. Now, that time is also known as 0N.W.. We created the new abbreviation for time when we reached a new, fundamental age of humanity. It is like A.D. or B.C. for Earth. Now it’s N.W., which stands for New World. This planet wasn’t even in our own solar system, or even our own galaxy. We spent 749 years flying to this New World, which means over forty generations were born, raised, and died on the ships. Each ship they created could hold the entire population of Argentina, and there were about seventy of these ships. They were connected and it was an easy, ten minute transport from one ship to the one next to it. No matter how many history and science classes I go through, I will never understand how they were capable of making so many huge ships if they were running out of resources to need this new planet in the first place. I guess necessity creates ways to do the unimaginable. Obviously, with so many people, they were dying constantly. Not many people were able to survive all together in those ships.

This photo was taken on December 23, 749 N.D.. I was born seven years later. Our scientists had discovered how to create a habitable dome, almost an artificial atmosphere, around the new planet. Our planet’s name is Zeroeth. The pink soil was found to be even more fertile and nutrient-rich than anything back on Earth. We can grow better, healthier foods that no one ever could have tried on Earth. My father is one of the scientists trying to find new, different ways to make food for us. Originally, my parents are from Australia. The new planet is quite small, and could only fit the populations of about three continents back on Earth. This is why Australia was the only continent allowed to go. The rest were hidden from the truth that everyone in Australia would be migrating to this new, unknown planet. Everyone in Australia was isolated and no one was allowed in or out after it was decided how many could come with them. Over the years of them being isolated, the world began to forget about Australia. This was until the ships finally left Earth. Twenty years later, the sun in the milky way died, and everyone left on Earth died. After we got here, the way the world was run changed forever. Everyone is assigned a job, and taken to be raised and trained in that job when they are seven years old. I haven’t seen my parents in five years. I’m seventeen, but five years after I was taken, there was a false threat and they came to take me home. When the threat was eliminated, they were forced out. I can’t be sure whether I’ll see them ever again. All of the jobs have their own hemispheres on the planet where they stay to keep others alive while doing their job. I am in the adaptation hemisphere, being trained to slowly modify our bodies, and the bodies of future children, to survive on Zeroeth without the artificial atmosphere. Some day, we will be able to survive on our own, and maybe eventually be identified as “aliens” to those who would be on Earth at this time.

Still Life Photos

  1. I think I have a pretty strong composition on my photos. I tried a lot of different ways to set it up and angles to look at it until I got something I liked.
  2. I think I edited my photos well. I may have over-edited some of them to make it very obvious, but it was while trying to make the backgrounds more black without making the object too light. I think I got them all to the point where I liked them though.
  3. If I shot this assignment again, I would have changed the lighting. I wasn’t careful enough when setting up the lighting and angles of the lights while taking my photos. Because of that, some of them have awkward lighting or look really dark or light. I would also have tried a few more angles when taking them.
  4. I think a few of my photos belong on the blog home page. I’m not sure about being the best of all the photo classes, though. I really like a few of them, and I think I got some really good angles on them. I would love to see one or two of my favorites from this assignment up on the home page. I don’t want to say if they’re better than other people’s because I haven’t seen them. I don’t like to compliment myself or make myself seem cocky, so I don’t really know what to say about how good they are. In my opinion, most of them are pretty cool.

Pixabay: Unity contributes to this photo through the orange that is on the snow and frost around the bubble tying into the bubble on top. The variety of the textures make this photo unique and interesting. It gives it different colors, dimensions, and shadows. The viewpoint of this photo is creative. You can tell there’s a sunset going on in the background even though you can’t see it. You’re at the level and perspective of the bubble. I really like this photo. The frost and patterns in the bubble look really cool, and the colors compliment each other so well. I like the dark contrast in the background with the orange lights. It feels really calm and quiet in the moment.

Lil Artsy: Unity contributes to this photo with the black and grey in the globe and the black and grey in the background. The variety from the dark colors and the bright orange lights make the globe stand out in the front with a very interesting and eye catching background. The viewpoint makes it so you can see the white table underneath the globe. This makes it so you can see it set apart from the other dark colors in the background. I really like this photo because it’s unique. I have never seen a globe like that and I think it looks pretty cool. The blurred lights in the background add a really cool detail to make a cool, unfocused background.

Lisa Fotios: Unity contributes to this photo with the green and blue in the plant and on the wood, the black on the ends of the plant and on the wood, and the white on the wood and in the middle of the plant. There is good variety in the different textures to make the plant stand out against the background. The viewpoint adds good shadows and lights to each part of the plant to make it have more detail, and showing great detail in the wood. I really like the colors in this photo. I think the blue accents in the wood look really pretty. This photo makes me feel like I’m sitting at home while reading a book.
